“Gerações” is recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock
Cooxupé’ s sustainability protocol meets the requirements of good agricultural practices established by MAPA
Gerações, Cooxupé’ s sustainability protocol, has been recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) as a Program to Promote Good Agricultural Practices. In principle, the term of recognition was published in the Federal Official Gazette on November 13th. In fact, the certification came from the Secretariat for Innovation, Sustainable Development, Irrigation and Cooperativism
Ministry of Agriculture
According to the publication, the ministry confirms that Gerações meets the minimum requirements for good agricultural practices. That is, established in MAPA Ordinance No. 337 of November 8, 2021.
First of all, the protocol is inclusive and was established by the cooperative in 2022. That is, with the aim of guaranteeing responsible and dignified production for all the links involved in the coffee production chain. It also promotes sustainability as one of the indispensable pillars of coffee growing. Gerações also responds to a desire on the part of the Brazilian and international markets, as well as a demand from coffee consumers.
Sustainable practices
Above all, the standards include the different realities of Cooxupé’s more than 20,000 members. For example, production size and resources. With different levels of sustainability, Gerações brings together a set of requirements and encourages member producers to follow the minimum commitments (Level 1). Gradually increasing commitments until progressing to the next levels.
“The ESG agenda and sustainable practices have been part of our cooperative’s reality for years. To further strengthen our commitment to producing socially, ethically and environmentally sustainable coffee, we adopted the Gerações Protocol two years ago. This recognition from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock shows that we are on the right path towards best practices in coffee growing,” says Cooxupé’s president, Carlos Augusto Rodrigues de Melo.
